Evidence Briefs
Compare what measurements, computations, and proofs establish about a specific QFT claim. Each brief brings together the relevant results, their uncertainties, shared inputs, and unresolved disagreements.
Evidence cutoff. The comparisons below include sources available through 11 August 2026. Their conclusions apply to the source sets and regimes stated in each brief.
Compare the evidence
Section titled “Compare the evidence”| Brief | Bounded assessment | Main reason for caution |
|---|---|---|
| Muon anomalous magnetic moment | the final experimental value is precise, while the size of any Standard Model discrepancy depends on the hadronic-vacuum-polarization evaluation | lattice and dispersive inputs are not yet mutually consistent |
| -boson mass | recent LHC measurements and the electroweak fit agree within uncertainties, while the precise CDF II value remains incompatible | combining results requires common treatment of PDFs, recoil, calibration, and correlations |
| Three-dimensional Ising bootstrap benchmark | crossing and unitarity isolate exceptionally small allowed regions under explicit assumptions | finite numerical truncation and spectral assumptions delimit what is certified |
| Finite-temperature QCD equation of state | independent lattice programs agree on the zero-density crossover equation of state over their shared continuum-controlled range | action, scale-setting, charm, and high-temperature regimes are not identical |
| Hydrodynamic attractor | attractor-like loss of initial-condition sensitivity appears across several controlled theoretical descriptions | evidence from heavy-ion data is indirect and model dependent |
| Planckian dissipation | order- relaxation scales recur in many materials | inferred times depend on transport models and do not establish a universal microscopic bound |
| Analogue Hawking radiation | analogue horizons robustly exhibit mode conversion and, in some platforms, partner correlations | these experiments test analogue kinematics, not astrophysical black-hole evaporation |
| Quantum null energy condition scope | QNEC has strong flat-space QFT proofs and broad checks | curved-background statements require additional geometric and renormalization hypotheses |
Reading an evidence comparison
Section titled “Reading an evidence comparison”A source may support a claim, count against it, qualify its scope, reproduce part of a result, or supply background. “Independent” requires more than a different paper: analyses can share datasets, calibration, ensembles, perturbative inputs, software, or theoretical assumptions.
Read uncertainties with their original definitions. A combined significance requires compatible observables and the relevant correlations; the briefs retain disagreements when those conditions are unmet. A null result constrains the parameter and regime it probes, while a successful benchmark tests a method within the benchmark’s domain.
For the calculation behind a comparison, use Research Methods. For the wider unresolved problem, follow Frontier Questions.
Citing an assessment
Section titled “Citing an assessment”Cite the primary sources for scientific results. When citing a synthesis on this website, give its page title, URL, evidence cutoff, and access date; see Citing and reusing QFT.org for the citation format. These pages may change as errors are corrected or evidence is reassessed. No immutable Research edition has been released.
